Clarendon College

A decade of excellence
Founded by Lucille Tesorero–Bacay and Flerie Tesorero-Tesado in 1996,
Clarendon College formerly Clarendon Montessori started with two classrooms on
the ground floor of an apartment building in 1996 in Bagumbayan, Roxas,
Oriental Mindoro. The first batch of pupils were taught and supervised by
three teachers who willingly offered their services and tackled all the
hardships and arduous tasks that came along with the schools first year of
operation.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
The next school year, Clarendon Montessori opened classes for grades 1 to 3.
In 1998, Clarendon Montessori has grown with the support of the PTA (Parents
and Teachers Association) the school acquired the 2200 sq. m. lot in Brgy.
Odiong, the current school site and put up 10 classrooms, a library, H.E.
room, science laboratory room and faculty room. More school buildings were
constructed the following year due to increase in enrolment and offering of
complete elementary curriculum.
After five years of service to the community Clarendon Montessori opened the
high school department. The Clarendon Debating Society was put up spearheaded
by Leo Dodi Tesado to train students in the art of public speaking.
Clarendon College is located in Roxas,
Oriental Mindoro.Inspired by Dr. Jeter Sespeñe, then vice-president of Romblon
State College it was in 2002 when the Board of Trustees took the big challenge
of offering tertiary education. Hence the name Clarendon College. Flerie
Tesado was pronounced the college dean with Honesto Taytay as the principal of
the elementary department and Lucille Tesorero as high school department
principal. Additional classrooms were put up to accommodate 37 college
enrollees. The courses offered were Bachelor in Elementary Education, major in
Early Childhood Education and Teaching in Early Grades; Bachelor in Secondary
Education major in English and Mathematics. The following year Business
Administration major in Business management was offered. Elsie Galaran also
took over as principal of the elementary department and became head of the
student affairs in college.
On the second year of having college department, two college students, namely
Grace Teston and Leo Testado, bagged medals in the CHED Regional Press
Conference and made a wave throughout the region being the only college in the
entire Region IV–B grabbing a medal in the CHED Luzon-wide Press Conference in
Baguio City last 2004. It was in the same school year when the Clarenadonians
amazed Oriental Mindoro Division after winning awards in the CHED Math Camp
held in Calapan City. They won the first place in math Hunt and Math Song.
April of this year saw the pioneering batch of Education students graduate
with none other than Gemma Cruz-Araneta as commencement speaker. Clarendon
College has indeed gone a long way from pre-school classes in rented
classrooms of a building to its present status – a college offering complete
elementary, secondary and tertiary education specializing in Business and
Education courses.
PRESENT TIMES
At present there are 20 classrooms, including the computer laboratory, science
laboratory and two administrative offices. The school ground is turned into an
open court for basketball, volleyball, tennis, sepak takraw and other
purposes. The most recent improvement is the fully equipped speech laboratory
and this year E-learning from pre- school to tertiary is being utilized.
The school also receives assistance from the national government in the form
of ESC and EVS grants. Private individuals and NGOS also sponsor the college
education of qualified students.
Clarendon College, being an educational institution upholding academic
excellences, professionalism and holistic development is a great help not only
to the residents of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro but also to the neighboring
municipalities like Bongabong, Mansalay and Bulalacao. It caters to the need
for quality education and brings complete pre-school, elementary, secondary
and tertiary education within their reach.
The institution aims to empower its people with global level of education. In
10 years of service Clarendon College have established and empowered the
students as a force to be reckoned with. The goal of Clarendon College is to
steer the youth rightfully along the path of excellence. A path that will
instill in them not only global proficiency from what they learn but also
Godly values that will ensure better welfare for all.
Through the establishment of this institution, it gives chance to students
whose parents are financially handicapped by introducing them to teacher
training course, computer and business. It is one way of decreasing school
leavers and likewise preventing the wastage of valuable human resource.
The organizational mandate of Clarendon College is to accelerate horizontally
and vertically its growth as an educational institution. In support to the
student-teacher as part of their training on their observation and
participation and practice teaching, the college is utilizing their high
school and elementary as their training venue. The students in Business
Administration are sent to different private and public offices for practicum
in order to equip them with sound knowledge of financial practice; tax laws
and to enable the students to make use of a scientific approach to all aspects
of the economy.
The educational system of Clarendon College is one of the community based
curricula demanded by the local constituents, which are basis for national
development. This system can become in itself a major boost and prime
instrument for promoting the general development program of the Commission on
Higher Education (CHED).
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Clarendon College has vowed to participate in the development of a
comprehensive four-year educational plan to ensure the success of Clarendon
students in the new millennium by accomplishing the following goals: (1)
achieve a level of excellence in a climate of learning for a diverse student
body; (2) provide effective pathways to learning for every student; (3)
improve student learning, student life and management of resources through
appropriate application of technology; and (4) increase access through growth
and fiscal soundness.
Clarendon College’s commitment to excellence in the pursuit of learning
academic achievement manifest in the institution’s provision of academic
standards that are fair and equitable to all students. The students’
responsibility is to perform to the best of their potential.
COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY
Clarendon College is continuously giving outreach program in the community of
Roxas through the following : (1) gift giving to the Mangyan areas of the
community of Roxas; (2) gift giving to Day Care Centers; and (3) training of
Day Care Teachers.
This year the College Plans to participate in the ADOPT A SCHOOL program of
the Department of Education to help in training local teachers in English
Proficiency since the institution believes that education is a process of
exploration that entails mutual responsibility.
