Striving for quality education for Muslim Mindanao
The COTABATO CITY STATE POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE (CCSPC) started as a general
secondary school in 1924. In 1983, it was converted into a state college by
virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg. 484, initially with 20 faculty members and 517
students.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Nestled on an eight-hectare land in the heart of Cotabato City, the seat of
the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the CCSPC now offers various
graduate, baccalaureate and non-degree courses to the people of Mindanao.
In addition to its big main campus in Cotabato City, the CCSPC boasts of
another eight-hectare campus in Barangay Rebuken, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao
which is utilized as a laboratory practicum area of the College of
Agriculture; its six-hectare land in Parang, Shariff Kabunsuan for practicum
and research of the College of Fisheries; and 1,000 hectares in Mt. Lenangan
of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Shariff Kabunsuan for the College of Forestry practicum
and research.
PRESENT TIMES
As provided in Batas Pambansa Blg. 484, the Cotabato City National High School
in Cotabato City was to be converted into a state polytechnic college now
known as the Cotabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC). The higher
educational institution promulgated policies of the CCSPC Governing Board:

Cotabato City.CCSPC aims to provide professional and advanced academic,
technical and vocational training; promote research, extension, production and
progressive leadership in various fields of specialization; and provide
scholarship and part-time job opportunities to poor but deserving students.
With a 212-strong manpower, 3,086 students and 14,275 graduates, CCSPC is now
headed by its president, Dr. Dingan Ali. In his latest report, Dr. Ali
demonstrates the continuing high levels of productivity and achievements of
the faculty, staff, and students of the College. The report addressed to the
CCSP Board of Trustees calls attention on the outcomes, and the major thrusts
of the strategic plan of the College, the road map of which he laid down
during his inaugural address.
The CCSPC president shared to the Board his initiatives focused on: providing
quality education and training in order for its graduates to be adequately
prepared and become very competitive in the labor markets and entrepreneurial
pursuits; making research, extension and production functional; and
implementing cost-effective resource management schemes to ensure effective
institutional management, economical and efficient operations of the College.
CURRICULAR OFFERINGS
The Cotabato City State Polytechnic College offers graduate courses under its
Graduate Studies program. These courses lead to the degrees of Doctor of
Philosophy majors in Educational Administration and Public Administration;
Master of Science major in Agricultural Extension; Master of Public
Administration; Master of Arts in Education major in School Administration and
Supervision; and Master of Arts in Teaching major in Food Technology.
Its undergraduate studies program offer the degrees Bachelor of Science in
Agriculture majors in Animal Science, Agronomy, and Agricultural Extension;
Bachelor of Agricultural Technology; Bachelors of Science in Community
Development, Mathematics, Industrial Psychology, Islamic Studies, and Social
Work, Commerce major in Management, Public Administration, Civil Engineering,
Information Technology, Industrial Technology majors in Civil Technology and
Electrical Technology, Fisheries, and Forestry; Bachelor in Secondary
Education majors in English, Mathematics, Music, Arts and Physical Education,
Technology and Livelihood, and Education;
Two-year courses are also available to the youth of Cotabato City and nearby
areas. These are Associates in Architectural Drafting, Agricultural
Technology, Computer Science, Food Technology; and Forest Ranger Course.
A Laboratory High School is likewise offered to secondary school students.
SPECIAL DISCTINCTIONS
The Cotabato City State Polytechnic College has the distinction of being the
oldest educational institution since the then Cotabato Empire, which has
served the communities for 82 years and continuously produces high-ranking
officials and intellectual leaders of the local governments, Region XII, ARMM
and provinces of Maguindanao and Shariff Kabunsuan .
Not only does it have accredited graduate education programs, its
undergraduate programs have also consistently produced board passers in the
Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) licensure examinations in Education,
Social Work, Forestry, Fisheries, and Civil Engineering.
Leaders team up to boost CCSPC
Limited resources are no bar to the progress of the Cotabato City State
Polytechnic College (CCSPC). With the help of leaders and the community, the
CCSPC continues to improve. For four years now, notable improvements have been
introduced. From July 2003 up to the present, the college got more facilities
as well as roads, pathways. It has also its own hostel now, thanks to
Maguindanao First District Representative Bai Sendig Dilangalen who donated
the costs of its construction.
Dilapidated rooms and chairs of the college are also being repaired
constantly, and that computers have been provided to both the offices and in
academic instructions.
Other concerned people have offerered to help to improve further the college
facilities and the quality of education offered by the college. Some are also
boosting the college funds through donations or grants.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (DENR–ARMM) has allocated to the college 100,000 hectares of
land in Linangan Mountain, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. The Sarmiento
family also gave five hectares in Barangay Magsaysay in Parang, Maguindanao
for the Aqu-Culture project of the College.
To further boost the college, Senator Francisco Pangilinan, Congressmen
Dilangalen and Simion Datumanong (both from the Maguindanao Province) and
other people who are concerned with the the students’ welfare have provided
scholarship grants to poor but deserving students of the College.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has provided assistance to the
college, in the form of textbooks and references for the improvement of the
College library. The Asia Foundation, National Library, National Historic
Institute, and National Science Institute also donated volumes of books to the
college.
More than 300 meters of campus roads have been concreted with the help of the
region’s political leaders and College funds.
