Friday, September 29, 2006

Miriam College and the American Hospitality Academy (AHA, Phil) have embarked on a joint program offering- the BS Entrepreneurship minor in Culinary Arts and Management degree, starting this first semester of school year 2006-2007. This trailblazing move was formalized recently through a memorandum of agreement signed by Dr. Ma. Lourdes Quisumbing – Baybay, dean of Miriam College Foundation, Inc., and Chef Gene Cordova, president of the American Hospitality Academy, Philippines.

Recognizing the growing worldwide interest in the emerging field of culinary arts, Miriam College made a strategic move to provide their students with a cutting edge advantage in the business world – the opportunity to pursue specialized training in this fast developing field of culinary arts and management. Likewise, aware of the need for culinarians to develop entrepreneurial skills, Chef Gene Cordova saw the importance of developing business competencies among culinary students of AHA. This mutually beneficial partnership in education and training, will allow students of both schools to be honed jointly in entrepreneurship and culinary arts.

Under this agreement, over 90 students of Miriam College who are currently enrolled in the BS Entrepreneurship program are pursuing a minor in culinary arts. They are currently undergoing culinary training under internationally trained chef-instructors of AHA, Philippines. After graduation, these students are qualified to pursue further culinary training through a six month to one year paid culinary internship in top hotels in the United States under the SERVLEAD program- the internship program of the American Hospitality Academy, USA. Developed by a team of internationally recognized hospitality educators from top universities worldwide, the SERVLEAD is the only internship program certified by the Educational Institute of the prestigious American Hotel and Lodging Association (EI-AH@LA), the largest hospitality industry organization in the United States and the most respected in the industry worldwide.
