The country is celebrating the 29th National Children’s Book Day (NCBD) on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Museo Pambata (MP).
With the theme “Masayang Magbasa sa Sariling Wika (It’s Fun to Read in One’s Own Language),” the celebration opens with various activities such as announcement of new children’s books, book fair, and the awarding of winners for the 2012 PBBY Salanga Writer’s Prize and Alcala Illustrator’s Prize.
An exhibit of the finalists’ illustrations of the winning story will also be showcased. Educator and Dean of UP’s College of Education Dina S. Ocampo will be delivering the day’s keynote address.
Expected to attend are children’s book publishers, writers, illustrators, librarians, educators, and other members of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY).
NCBD is celebrated every third Tuesday of July to commemorate the anniversary of the publication of Jose Rizal’s “The Monkey and the Tortoise” in Trubner’s Oriental Record in London.
PBBY, the Philippine National Section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), spearheads NCBD yearly for the development of children’s literature in the country.
