The Department of Education (DepEd) here will distribute ovicidal/lorvicidal (OL) mosquito traps to all classrooms in elementary and secondary schools in Ifugao.
Norma Sarol, the school nurse at the DepEd said the traps which will help minimize or even eradicate mosquitoes that cause the dengue, were given by the Department of Science and Technology.
Dr. Mary Jo Dulawan, provincial health officer, said the elimination of dengue is not only the concern of the Department of Health alone but is everybody’s, since dengue does not excuse anyone.
She said Ifugao has the highest number of cases in the region and Lagawe, the capital town, has the highest number of cases. Dulawan encouraged everyone to help search and destroy the breeding places of mosquitoes.
Dulawan said if the cases in Lagawe will not improve, the health board will be compelled to declare an outbreak in said barangays. “If there is an outbreak, we will be forced to conduct fogging which is the last recourse of the health department,” Dulawan said.
She congratulated the DepEd for initiating activities that will help decrease the dengue such as Brigade Eskwela and the distribution of OL traps.
