Tripartite agencies have launched a program to teach children and members of the communities how to reduce, recycle, and reuse waste materials.
Dubbed, “Basura Itinapon, Dapat Ayusin – Kikita ka na, Iwas sakit at Dagdag Allowance pa” (Bida Kid) program, it encourages schoolchildren in doing their responsibility on waste management in their young age.
The program was launched Thursday, July 19, at the Tomas Dacayo Community Center in Barangay Poblacion here with school officials, students, and parents.
“This program seeks to instill the value of waste management among children so that it will become a practice when they grow up, They will be trained and taught as new generation on solid waste managers by making it a habit,” said Ruth Padilla, Bida Kid project coordinator.
She said the program was pushed by Representative Carlos Padilla, and will be piloted in public elementary schools in six barangays of Solano town in collaboration with the Department of Education(DepEd) and the local government unit.
“Actually this was conceptualized last year and it will be implemented province wide after its piloting stage in public elementary schools.
The Bida Kid program, a solid waste management and environment and sustainability initiative, encourages public students and their parents to collect and gather recyclable materials.
The recyclable materials will be submitted in schools every Friday and subjected in a merit system, where every kilo of the materials is equivalent to one point.
The points will be reflected on each pupil’s Bida Card Kits given by school officials.
The points earned will be converted into its equivalent packages, such as school supplies, personal accessories, and grocery items, Padilla explained.
“We are very glad that it gained overwhelming support from school officials, students, and parents as well. We hope to expand the campaign in other sectors such as business establishments and in the barangay level,” Padilla said.
The proponents said the program was launched in Solano town being the premier commercial municipality in the province.
The collected recyclable materials and wastes will be disposed in partner with the 4S Junk Shop in Solano town, the leading solid waste collector in the province.
