Department of Education Assistant Secretary for Planning Jesus Lorenzo R. Mateo has advised all schools division superintendents in Cagayan Valley region to come up with interventions to further improve the learning outcomes of the students in the elementary and high school levels.

In the recently concluded 5th Regional Management Committee Meeting (MANCOM) hosted by the province of Quirino, Asec Lorenzo told education officials in the eight divisions of region 2, that close supervision of schools must be done to improve the results of the National Achievement Test and completion rates as well as reduce dropouts among the students.

He likewise enjoined all teachers to be role models as exemplified in the life and achievements of the late Secretary Jesse Manalastas Robredo, a trailblazer in the “Tuwid na Daan” campaign of President Noynoy Aquino.

Asec Lorenzo said teachers will be encouraged to attend trainings and take post-graduate studies so that they will be empowered.

Regarding the hiring of additional teachers to meet the standard student-teacher ratio, Lorenzo announced that DepEd will be hiring 61,000 new public school teachers by 2013 for Teacher I positions to be deployed in all the regions.

As to how many teachers will be deployed in every region, Asec Lorenzo did not elaborate but according to OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Benjamin Paragas of DepEd Quirino, some 150 new teachers will be deployed in Region 2.

During the meeting, OIC Regional Director Lourdes Angoluan brought to the attention of Asec Lorenzo the plight of DepEd region 2 division heads wherein almost all of them are serving in OIC status, only two Schools Division Superintendents and three Assistant Schools Division Superintendents are full-fledged.

Asec Lorenzo asked the concerned division heads and assistant heads to re-submit their pertinent documents to the regional office to be endorsed to the Office of the President for approval.

The regional Mancom meeting was participated in by DepEd 2 key officials and superintendents of the eight schools/city divisions. Provincial officials of the host province headed by Gov. Junie E. Cua and municipal officials of Cabarroguis welcomed Asec Mateo during the opening program.
