Pasig City – The Department of Education (DepEd) today opened its Oplan Balik Eskwela Information and Action Center (DepEd IAC) to respond to queries and complaints attendant to the opening of the school year.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said the IAC serves as the information and nerve center of the department that will respond to the public’s need for prompt action on their school opening concerns. Dedicated hot line numbers are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM to receive back-to-school concerns.
The Balik Eskwela Action Center is located at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Central Office in Pasig City. The public can call in their questions or complaints through its hotline numbers 636-1663, fax number 638-8641 or by text through DepEd’s Text Messaging Service with number 0919-456-0027 or by texting DEPED FDBK and sending it to 2622 for both Globe and Smart or through email at firstname.lastname@example.org
“We want to ensure the smooth opening of classes as expressed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo herself and be able to quickly address concerns that may arise”, Lapus said.
DepEd’s Action Center also coordinates efforts of other government agencies involved in the opening of classes for a more systematic and orderly public service delivery.
Lapus also directed DepEd regional directors and schools division superintendents to designate two action officers who will oversee regional and local concerns. They will coordinate these concerns with the central office.
In the past, most complaints were on the collection of fees by some schools. The department has issued strict orders for school heads to refrain from collecting fees as a requisite for enrollment. Lapus reiterated that the department will not tolerate illegal practices in public schools.
