DepEd launches character-building program in Region 8
Tacloban City (September 19) –- The importance of Advancing Brilliance in Character was underscored during its formal launching in the municipality of Tanauan recently.
Tanuauan town is one of the first municipalities which endorsed the Advancing Brilliance in Character (ABC) Program of the Department of Education Region (DepEd) 8.
The launching which was held at the Tanauan Gym was attended by the local government officials, the elementary and secondary schools within the municipality, the teachers and the parents. The good attendance was reflective of the desire for the best education of the town’s young children, by the government officials, the parents, the teachers, the students and all the sectors of the community.
The Launching also was attended by Dr. Rebecca Ragrag and Ms. Sara Apurillo of the Department of Education Regional Office 8.
In the launching, Mayor Roque Tiu stressed the importance of advancing brilliance in character in the total education of the individual. Academic excellence is nothing without brilliance in character, Mayor Tiu said.
The municipal Mayor who has always been cited as one of the most effective partners of the Department of Education in the Region underscored the indispensable role and involvement of the parents, the church, the community and all the stakeholders in the character development of the young children.
The home, the church and the community are considered as important allies of the school in molding the heart and the mind of the child, the mayor said. The schools should not be left alone in this endeavor. It is important that whatever character development the children learn in school must be reinforced in the home, the mayor added.
Mayor Tiu believed that there must be good synergy among the education stakeholders composed of the government agencies, the non-government organizations and all the sectors in the community for a more unified force towards the student’s total development. (PIA 8)
