Abra students show improved competitiveness in DOST scholarship
Written by admin on April 3rd, 2009Abra students have shown improved level of competitiveness in their participation in this school year’s qualifying examinations for scholarship in the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The improved performance is shown by the tremendous increase in the number of qualifiers which is 14 compared to the four last year. The number of participating schools in the said scholarship examination likewise increased this year.
The DOST in Abra headed by Mr. Menandro Buenafe bared the names of the qualifiers for the DOST scholarship for the school year 2009-2010.
They are: Deo Niño D. Martinez from Brgy. Ar-arosip, La Paz ; Clinton C. Bersalona from Zone 1, Bangued; Oscar V. Millare from Brgy. Lingtan, Bangued; 4) Cedie B. Barca from Brgy. Lipcan, Bangued; 5) Leizl Joy B. Bisares from Brgy. Naguirayan, Pidigan; and 7) Jessica S. Corpuz from Camp Juan Villamor, Bangued.
The Divine Word College of Bangued has 2 passers: Delaney Shane B. Carlota from Brgy. San Ramon, Manabo; and Paulo L. Cataniag from Zone 6, Bangued.
There are also two passers from Luba-Tubo Catholic High School : Wella Ranna M. Buenafe and Richard King W. Castro both from Poblacion, Luba.
The other qualifiers are: Maria Cristina P. Pacursa of San Quintin National High School from Brgy. Vica, San Quintin; Michael Jeorge B. Alvarez of Heart of Mary High School from Brgy. Mudiit, Dolores; and Krestle Heart G. Castañeda of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology – Lagangilang campus, from Brgy. Aguet, Lagangilang.As usual, the Abra High School, both Bangued and Mudeng campuses, has again the highest number of passers.
While President Arroyo had issued an executive order to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to instruct all state universities and colleges (SUCs) “to devise a flexible, socially-sensitive tuition fee plan and reform the no-payment, no examination policy that is currently being applied as well as to expand the coverage of the Student Assistance Funds for Education (SAFE) administration that grants monthly stipend to students that provides subsidy for their transportation, laboratory research and book allowances, the DOST scholarship is an added privilege that benefit the poor but deserving students in the country with the hope that these students of today will bring the country in the first world 20 years from now.
