The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-CAR) registered 1,994 enrollees/beneficiaries here in Cordillera of the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships (PGS), while another 649 individuals have already graduated.
Based on TESDA’s Regional Operations Division data, as of April 2009, 290 individuals availed of the PGS in Abra, 157 in Apayao, 847 in Baguio-Benguet, 158 in Ifugao, 205 in Kalinga and 237 in Mt. Province.
All the scholars are enrolled on different Technical/Vocational (TekBok) courses that TESDA offers, such as housekeeping, slaughtering, driving, heavy equipment operation, bartending, carpentry, machinist, masonry, automotive servicing, massage therapist, barista, cook, food and beverage, 2D animation, front office services, building wiring installation, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, consumer electric wiring, household service worker and medical transcription.
The PGS is TESDA’s support to the government’s Economic Resiliency Program. It is open to all unemployed or underemployed individuals who want to have a job or an additional income, increase productivity or for a career shift. Economically displaced local and overseas workers are also welcome to avail of the PGS.
Meantime, at the recently held Labor Day “JOBapalooza”, at the Baguio Convention Center, 2,247 individuals registered and availed of the services offered by TESDA.
During the two-day fair, TESDA offered free massage services c/o Meridian Paramedical Institute, haircut demo and free haircut c/o Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) and Baguio Technical Vocational Skills Training Center (BTVSTC).
TESDA also offered briefing on its Pangulong Gloria Scholarships, their affiliated/partner schools with registered and other training programs, and distributed flyers, newsletters and calendars.
TESDA also set-up computers for their Youth Profiling for Starring Careers (YP4SC), wherein some of their registrants also availed off. The YP4SC is a multi-component career guidance program designed to help students choose intelligently on what course to pursue on college. It provides aptitude and job interest assessment, labor market information, education and training information, career profiling and career guidance and counseling.
The JOBapalooza is a nationwide jobs fair spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment, with Baguio City as one of four cities nationwide chosen as host.
