Humble beginnings, perseverance and giving your best on every thing you do. This is the formula of success for hairdresser/make up artist Reynante Cobcobo, the regional winner for Technical Education and Skill Development Authority’s “TESDA IDOL” Search.

The TESDA IDOL search was conceptualized to give recognition to graduates of technical-vocational (Tek-Bok) programs who have attained skills excellence and success in their chosen occupation and contributed to the economic growth in their communities. The search also aims to increase the level of awareness and appreciation of Tek-Bok education among the general public in the country and to raise the self-confidence level and boost the morale of Tek-Bok graduates.

For Cobcobo’s success story, he is the eldest among 10 siblings and he grew up watching his mother work doubly hard just to support them. After finishing high school, he enrolled and finished a cosmetology summer course at the Baguio School of Business and Technology in 1994. He started working on apprentice jobs as hairdresser and make-up artist at various small beauty salons in Baguio City and La Trinidad to help her mother in putting up food for their table and in sending his younger siblings to school.

With good things started going his way, Cobcobo took the opportunity to pursue his studies and finished Physical Therapy course from Baguio Central University (BCU) in 1999. He also took some units on Masters in Business Administration at the University of Cordilleras.

Now at only 32 years of age, Cobcobo has already put up three salons through the help of his family, relative and friends. These are located at Km. 4 and Km 5 at La Trinidad, Benguet and at the Walter Clapp Centrum, Bontoc, Mt. Province.

According to Cobcobo, he is happy with how good things turn out for his life. Aside from helping his family, he also provides employment to others through his salons.

“I am proud to have started in a Tek-Bok course. Hindi din naman lahat ng graduate ng 4-year course ay assured to have a good job. Kkailangan pa din ng perseverance at hard work, to develop skills and be highly competitive. All a person needs to succeed is to always do his best in whatever he does or plans to do. Kahit anung work saan man sila mapunta,” Cobcobo averred.

Cobcobo, who hails from Bauko, Mt. Province and presently residing in La Trinidad Benguet, has already various credits to his name. He represented the country in the Asian Hairdressing Awards 2001 in Malaysia. He was also a finalist in the men’s category of the 2007 Philippine Hairdressing Awards. Reynante Cobcobo writes a column entitled ‘Beauty Secrets’ on Sunstar Baguio’s Lifestyle section, which usually comes out every Thursday.

Cobcobo will represent the region in the National TESDA IDOL Search. The winners will be awarded during the TESDA anniversary on the last week of August.
