The Department of Education (DepEd) joins the Council for the Welfare of Children in celebrating the 15th year of National Children’s Month celebration this October with the theme: “Kung Bright Child ang Gusto, Mundo’y Ingatan Mo.”

The celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 267 declaring the month of October of every year as National Children’s Month.

The month-long celebration aims to give emphasis on the important role of the child within the Filipino family recognition to the role of a nurturing family and the Philippine society.

It also aims to support the campaign to end violence against children and to promote their physical, spiritual, moral, intellectual well-being.

Through DepEd Memorandum 382 Series of 2010, Education Secretary Armin Luistro encouraged all heads of bureaus, the regional and division offices to join in the month-long celebration by undertaking child-related activities.

Among the suggested activities is the organization of child-friendly activities for the general public such as art contest, children’s fair, photo exhibit, film showing, camping, etc.

Another activity is the conduct of seminar workshops, fora. More so, one important activity is to bring mobile services like medical, dental, library, to areas where children congregate on the streets, urban temporary shelter areas and rural areas.

The celebration of the National Children’s Month celebration is in recognition of the Filipino children as the most valuable asset of the nation.

The only way these children will become assets of the nation is by providing them the care and love of a nurturing family and community.
