The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved during its 279th Special Commission Meeting through CEB Resolution No. 459-2006 the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering programs of PNTC Colleges in Dasmarinas, Cavite.

With their recognition, CHED assures the public that PNTC Colleges’ standards and processes can be relied upon as a guarantor of quality maritime education. To achieve recognition, PNTC Colleges, has undergone a series of evaluation of its comprehensive curriculum, competence of its faculty and the capability of its facilities. The panel that examined PNTC Colleges’ qualifications determined that it was in full compliance with the CHED’s regulation to offer these programs.

CHED is a government organization dedicated to improving academic degree programs for higher education. Its primary work is accrediting educational programs in order to assure the public about the quality of college and university programs. The recognition serves as a road map for students and their parents, to determine where they may secure the best education for their money. Programs are called "Recognized" upon 100 percent compliance of the requirements prescribed by CHED.

Atty. Hernani N. Fabia, president of PNTC Colleges, expressed his appreciation to PNTC Colleges’ management and staff for their "continuing efforts to improve the quality" of maritime education in the Philippines. "With government recognition of our maritime education programs, PNTC Colleges are encouraged not only to maintain our superior standards but to strive to continue raising the bar to higher levels," Atty. Fabia said.

"The recognition was the product of hard work and commitment that enabled PNTC Colleges to meet the CHED’s regulations," says Alejandro N. Ezeque, the School Administrator. "This recognition also assures the public that PNTC Colleges provides competent and professional educators."

PNTC Colleges also earned several recognitions since its foundation in 1994 from various national organizations that promote academic performance excellence including certification to the International Standard for Quality Management System, ISO 9001: 2000.

To achieve the ISO 9001: 2000 certification, management and staff from the PNTC Colleges works on data collection and analysis, performance measurements and the preparation of relevant quality management system documentation. PNTC Colleges’ quality management system audit verifies the accuracy of the evidence that student learning meets high expectations and that the education programs are following processes that produce quality. The quality of the evidence and the quality of the management system that produced it are key factors in achieving PNTC Colleges’ ISO 9001: 2000 Certification.

PNTC Colleges started as Philippine Nautical Training Institute (PNTI), an institution that provides maritime training in accordance with IMO Model Courses. PNTC Colleges, with its vision of providing total maritime education and training, offered degree courses namely BS Maritime Transportation (BSMT) and BS Marine Engineering (BSMRE) along with vocational courses such as Hotel and Restaurant Management for Passenger Ships (HRMPS), Seafarer’s Ratings Course in Deck, Engine and Steward (SRC), Computer Programming and Computer Network.
