The Free Competency Assessment and Certification Week initiated by the Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Region 8, headed by Regional Director Juan M. Sabulao, Jr., is scheduled on March 28 to April 1, 2011.
According to TESDA Information Officer Elizabeth Canales, the National Tech-voc Education & Training Competency Assessment and Certification is a synchronized conduct of free competency assessment in all TESDA schools and training centers nationwide. The assessment, it was bared, will include key qualifications which are difficult to find but with high industry demand.
Canales said that TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva emphasized that one of the primary objectives of the synchronized assessment and certification is to increase the number of certified Filipino workers and graduates of tech-voc education and training (TVET) for them to qualify for better jobs.
If the trainees and workers, Canales added, will be able to hurdle all the required capabilities and competencies, then they will be certified and provided with a National Certificate or Certificate of Competency which may be used in applying for jobs in fields that are highly in demand.
Interested applicants may get the assessment application form from the TESDA Regional Office 8 or any of its provincial offices. Said forms are likewise available at the TESDA Technology Institutions or may be downloaded at www.tesda.gov.ph or www.tesda8.org. The deadline for submission of the application is on March 18.
According to Canales, the applicants must submit the accomplished application form, a self-assessment guide, and 3 pcs. passport size pictures with their names printed at the back.
For region 8, Canales added, the assessment is available to skilled workers, TVET graduates and graduating students or trainees of registered programs in the following courses: Automotive Servicing NC II, Automotive Servicing NC III, & Driving NC III (passenger bus/straight truck) – March 28, 2011; Programming NC IV, Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, & Bookkeeping NC III – March 29, 2011; and Food & Beverage Services NC II, Food & Beverage Services NC III, Commercial Cooking NC III, Bread & Pastry NC II, Housekeeping NC II, & Housekeeping NC III.
Other courses also include Electrical Installation & Maintenance NC II, Electrical Installation & Maintenance NC III, SMAW NC II, SMAW NC III, & Construction Painting NC III – March 31; and lastly, Masonry NC III, Plumbing NC III, & Carpentry NC III – April 1, 2011.
