The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Science High School (DOST-PSHS) announced the opening of the application process for the SY 2012-2013 high school scholarship program.
A Philippine Science High School scholar will be entitled to free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, and monthly stipend. Scholars from low-income groups can avail of uniform, transportation and living allowances, according to DOST.
The scholarship is open to Grade 6 or Grade 7 elementary pupils of schools recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd).
To qualify for scholarship, an applicant must be 1) in the upper 10 percent of the batch SY 2010-2011, with no grade below 80 percentile as certified by the school principal; 2)a Filipino citizen with no pending application as immigration to any foreign country; born on or after June 1, 1997; 3) in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program; 4) of good conduct and behavior.
Students who failed in previous PSHS NCE are not qualified for scholarship.
If the applicant does not belong to the upper 10 percent of the class, he should have special aptitude in Science and Math as indicated in his report card. He also should have at least a final grade of 85 in Science and Math and 80 in all other subjects.
Eligible applicants are required to submit two copies of accomplished application forms, two identical recent 1×1 ID pictures, and a copy of the report card if the applicant does not belong to the upper 10 percent the batch (SY 2010-2011).
A non-refundable test fee of P100 will be charged to students coming from private schools.
Roslyn Tambago of the DOST in Negros Oriental said application forms have already been sent to elementary school principals in the province.
Application forms may be filed at any of the PSHS campuses, or DOST Regional and provincial offices. Deadline for submission is on July 15, 2011.
Date of the NCE is set on Sept. 10, 2011. The examination is the one-time scholastic aptitude test designed to measure scientific abiliy, quantitative ability, abstract reasoning and verbal aptitude of applicants.
