Asian College of Science and Technology
May
2008
In constant pursuit of the latest in science and technology
BEGINNINGS
THE Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT) was incorporated in 1972
as the Asian Institute of Electronics (AIE). Owned by Constancio A. Sia and
his wife, Gloria D. Sia, AIE initially had 300 students when it opened in
1973.
The demand for quality training and education in electronics and technology
led to the birth of AIE Campuses outside Metro Manila such as in Baliuag
(1988), Dumaguete City (1991), and Cagayan de Oro (1994).
In 1995, AIE became a full-fledged college, called Asian College of Science
and Technology (ACSAT) which now offers degree programs like Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration (majors in Management, Marketing, Human
Resource Management), Nursing, Computer Science, Computer Engineering,
Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Hospitality Management, Hotel
and Restaurant Management and Tourism. ACSAT also offers diploma courses in
Health Care Services, Hotel and Restaurant Services and Electronics Computer
Technology.
ACSAT has won many local and national championships in various Youth Skills
Olympics in the electronics and computer application fields. Other awards
garnered by ACSAT include the National Championship in the Electronics
Division in the National Youth Skills Olympics (sponsored by the National
manpower and Youth Council) in 1993, Champion, National Capital Region
Championship in the Electronics Division in 1994, Rotary Club Award for
Outstanding Community Service in 1994, and Champion, Computer Servicing
Category, Metro Manila Youth Skills Olympics in 1996.
From 2004 to 2006, ACSAT Electronics Computer Technician students were chosen
to be the Philippine representatives to the World Cyber Games International
Championship in Italy and Singapore.
Regionally, ACSAT also won the bronze medals in TESDA Skills Competition on
Electronics Application, for both youth and open categories. It was also a
semi-finalist (one of the top three) representing the National Capital Region
(NCR) for the 2005 Globe Genius search for the Great G-Cash Idea, wherein the
country was subdivided into five regions only, namely, North Luzon, National
Capital Region, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
In 2006, ACSAT displayed its dominance in the field of sports. The ACSAT
Lightnings became champion in the Governor’s Cup basketball Tournament in
Dumaguete. Cagayan De Oro’s varsity team won the PRISAA Taekwondo competition.
Alabang’s volleyball team earned 1st runner up (out of 11 schools in Rizal) in
over-all standing for the PTVEA meet.
In 2007, BS Nursing graduates of ACSAT Cubao got a 100% passing rate in the
Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination. In the same year, ACSAT has
established international education partnership with Australian Education
Academy (AEA).
ACSAT TODAY
Today, ACSAT’s main campus is the ACSAT CENTER at 1013 Aurora Boulevard,
Project 3 Quezon City. The center is an eight-storey building with modern
facilities and equipment such as air-conditioned classrooms, electronic
testing tools and equipment, simulated hospital and state-of-the-art caregiver
facilities and fully equipped operation kitchen and hotel simulation rooms.
Nine campuses were also established in strategic places of the Philippines:
Cubao, Novaliches, Caloocan, Alabang in National Capital Region; Masinag,
Antipolo in Region 4; Baliuag and Cabanatuan in Region 3; Dumaguete in Region
7 and Cagayan De Oro in Region 10. Recently, six (6) franchised campuses were
established, namely Carriedo, Manila, Mandaluyong in National Capital Region;
Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Pampanga in Region 3; Calamba, Laguna in Region 4 and
Sorsogon in Region 5.
Over the years, ACSAT has experienced exceptional growth, improved its
facilities of learning, new altitude in educational performance, significant
milestones and cultivated community service.
In the area of science and technology, ACSAT is now offering globally-relevant
and in-demand courses, strengthening placement of graduates, continuous
upgrading of facilities, buildings, curricula, learning guides and the roster
of faculty members and trainers and carrying out towards the university status
direction.
Courses are also being offered to respond to the growing job demands.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be a need for
approximately 1,203,000 registered nurses between 2004 and 2014. Information
Technology related jobs rank at top 3 (Matt Quinn Top 25 jobs for 2005-2009).
ACSAT commits to academic excellence so all activities are directed towards
this ultimate goal. For instance, ACSAT Nursing students in Cubao recently
passed the Nurses’ Board Exam with a 100% passing rate.
It is also noteworthy that ACSAT pushes to meet the various demands of
educational improvements along its membership into a non-sectarian national
association, the Philippine Accreditation of Colleges and Universities (PACU).
ACSAT Dumaguete is gearing up its Computer Studies Department for
accreditation, applying for its first graduate courses in IT and Business
Administration and opening its Research and Development department. These are
initial steps to be undertaken for ACSAT- Dumaguete’s direction for the
university status.
ACSAT is also revolutionizing the direction of its placement activities by
providing extended services for its on-the-job-trainees and graduates.
In the recent years, ACSAT has been deploying trainees to Boracay and
Singapore in order to maximize their actual learning experience and give them
greater opportunities to be hired by leading companies in the country and
around the world.
Currently, Electronics and Computer Technology, Information Technology,
Business Administration and Hotel and Restaurant Services students who are
undergoing on-the-job training have been deployed to Singapore to work with
Pacific Internet, a leading telecommunications and Internet provider; Royal
Peacock Hotel; Scarlet Hotel; and Meiban Group Ltd., an international public
company for manufacturing which engages in the manufacture of plastic
injection- moulded products for multinational customers in electronics and
computer sectors.
ACSAT is also working on partnerships in Japan as well as other Asian
countries, the Middle East and the United States.
And so gearing up for the challenges of the future, today’s global-minded
ACSAT never stops to pay tribute to the past. Where AIE pioneered electronics
training and education brings ACSAT to forge Australian Education standards in
the Philippines. Australian Education Academy (AEA) is a registered
organization in the State of Victoria, Australia which sought an education
partner in the Philippines. AEA chose and gave exclusive rights to ACSAT. In
association with ACSAT, Australian Education Academy, delivers and assesses
qualifications in various disciplines in the Philippines using ACSAT
facilities and trainers qualified to Australian standards.
FLAGSHIP COURSES
ACSAT has also always believed in supporting and collaborating with government
and industry toward the establishment and maintenance of sustainable
development not only within Metro Manila but outside it and beyond as well.
ACSAT therefore offers programs supportive of the offshoring and outsourcing
subsector in Luzon, in the Visayas, and in Mindanao. In so doing, ACSAT plays
an active role in increasing the number of Filipinos and their families who
benefit from the growth of these sunshine industries throughout the country.
HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
ACSAT aims to educate and shape future leaders for the tourism and hospitality
industries by providing the Filipino with intensive academic programs and with
work experiences gained through practicum and internship within the
Philippines and abroad.
The BS in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program is a ladderized course that
allows the student to work and study at the same time. A student’s successful
completion of his first year subjects allows him to work as a food server or
service crew member, as a food and beverage attendant, as a kitchen helper, as
