Building a promising future through excellence in education
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
It was on December 30, 1993 when the Aurora State College of Technology
(ASCOT) in the province of Aurora was created by virtue of Republic Act No.
7664 authored and sponsored by then Senate President Edgardo J. Angara and
then Rep. Benedicto G. Miran.
Immediately after the law was passed, officials formed a pre-organization task
force to prepare for the management and operations of ASCOT through the
leadership of Sen. Angara, the father and founder of the College. The
Department of Education, Culture and Sport (DECS) Division of Aurora under
Superintendent Domingo Hulipas was assigned to administer the admission
process for freshmen students. DECS also alloted temporary classrooms of
existing schools to be used for the new college.
With all the preparations made, ASCOT opened with Dr. Benny A. Palma as acting
resident. Dr. Palma came from the Aklan State College of Agriculture (ASCA),
now the Aklan State University (ASU), in Banga, Aklan. ASCOT started with the
first batch of three hundred one (301) freshmen students. The classes were
held temporarily at the Baler Central School. Ten classrooms and a bigger room
for its administration office were alloted for the college use by the school.
There were 13 original faculty members and nine administrative personnel
assigned to teach and administer the State College.
ASCOT’s Charter (RA 7664) assigned to the budding state college a campus site
consisting of 196.06 hectares in Debudulan Mountain, Sitio Dicaloyungan in
Barangay Zabali in Aurora’s capital town of Baler. The area was declared as
the ASCOT school site by the Presidential Proclamation No. 559 on April 7,
1996. The Charter also directed ASCOT to integrate the Aurora National
Agricultural School in the town of Maria Aurora and the Aurora National
Fishery School in Casiguran town.
Thus, ASCOT acquired additional campus consisting of 110.8 hectares in
Barangay Bazal, Maria Aurora and 105 hectares in Barangay Bianoan, Casiguran,
Aurora. To make that official, a memorandum of agreement was signed with the
Department of Education, Culture, and Sports represented by Regional Director
Pedro V. Trinidad of Region IV. The DAT-BAT Program with 259 students, 10
faculty members, two support staff, books, farm equipment, vehicles, and
buildings were also turned over to ASCOT.
The state college held its first ever commencement exercises three years later
at the Baler Municipal Plaza on June 8, 1996 with Rep. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo
as the Commencement Speaker. A total of 178 students - 30 collegiate and 148
vocational - composed the first batch of graduates in four-year degree courses
in Agriculture and two-year completion certificates for ladderized technology
courses.
Late in the year 1996, the General Education and other departments of the
college moved to the completed Phase 1 of Dr. Juan C. Angara Hall in Sitio
Dicaloyungan, Barangay Zabali in Baler.
oday, the College has a total enrolment of 1,570 students consisting of 1,488
undergraduate students and 82 graduate students. The enrolment keeps on
increasing every year. Likewise, the number of faculty and staff members is
also increasing to meet the demand of the students and the college. The
college now has 4l permanent faculty members and 46 staff members. The college
also has 13 faculty members under contract, and, 20 job order and four casual
employees.
At present, ASCOT offers several programs through its five departments:

Resources, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, and Graduate Studies. The
college departments population has surpassed the 1,000 mark and is expected to
increase in the succeeding years.
The main campus of the college features twelve buildings. The first building
of the campus was the General Education building designed by renowned
architect Honrado Fernandez. The building houses the General Education
Department and the General Administration and Support Services of the College.
