Leaping towards greater heights…
Humble beginnings
Lyceum of Iligan Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit educational institution
of learning, duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in
August of 1994. Ideally situated in a residential-commercial area at Corpus
Christi Village, Tubod, Iligan City, it is readily accessible to the commuting
public.
The College first opened its doors to the general public in June of S.Y.
1997-1998, offering courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering,
Computer Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, Maritime Transportation,
Commerce, Customs Administration and Education. These varied programs are
designed to meet the manpower needs of Iligan City, its neighboring cities and
municipalities especially the newly established Iligan- Cagayan Industrial
Corridor.
Although, still its nascent-stage and considered very young by the standards
of academic institutions, Lyceum of Iligan’s commitment to relevant, quality
and affordable education is clearly manifested in its various course offering,
magnificent physical plant, state of the art facilities, dedicated
administrators and faculty thus, making Lyceum of Iligan definitely a landmark
of quality education and youth development in this part of the city.
On August 1998, within one year of its existence, Lyceum of Iligan Foundation
through the College of Maritime Education satisfactorily complied the
requirements of the Rules of Maritime Academies, accredited and received, the
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Management System Certificate with validity until
August 3, 2005. DNV is a Norwegian accrediting agency for Maritime Industries.
In order to retain the validity of the Certificate, Lyceum of Iligan
Foundation is subject to annual audits which will be endorsed in the
Supplement.
Furthermore, on June 2002, the College offered its Associate in Health Science
Education / Bachelor of Science in Nursing (AHSE/BSN) with complete laboratory
facilities to cater the needs of the public and move courageously to globally
competitive challenge.
In June S.Y. 2003-2004, to fully utilize its human resources, the programs
Computer Science and Commerce were transferred to its mother school, the
Iligan Capitol College.
On March 2004, the institution successfully achieved its goals when CHED
Region 10 had their third level visit to the College of Nursing and second
level visit to the College of Education.
On June 2005-2006, again to fully utilize its human resources and facilities,
the Institution transferred its Education program to Iligan Capitol College
while the Graduate in Midwifery was transferred to Lyceum.
On May 8, 2006 and October 11, 2006, by virtue of CHED en banc Resolution No.
008 and No. 017, the College of Nursing and the Graduate in Midwifery
respectively were granted recognition in accordance with the pertinent
provisions of Republic Act No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education
Act of 1994″.
Lycean
The word Lycean is from the name Lyceum. All parts of it feature the faces of
the people and their learning experience involved therein. These are strong
proofs that LIF never wavered, in fact, gained strength in its commitment to
quality education through its supportive administration, competent teachers,
excellent instruction, outstanding service and dynamic alliance with other
educational organizations. And all those that made every graduate proud and
confident.
Vision
The improvement of the quality of life of the people continues to be the
primordial vision of lyceum of Iligan Foundation as it seeks to develop the
youth’s full potential and positive values in a learner- centered and globally
competitive teaching learning environment.
Mission
Lyceum of Iligan Foundation is committed to develop the youth into “Total
Persons”, mature and responsible individuals who are intellectually,
professionally and technically competent, imbued with desirable attitudes and
steeped in moral and spiritual values, who will serve as catalyst for social
transformation.
Institutional objectives
In consonance with its Mission Statement, Lyceum of Iligan, through the
concerted efforts of her academic community. Seeks to attain the following
objectives:
1. To provide programs and activities that will develop individuals
physically, intellectually, emotionally, morally and spiritually.
2. To offer a program of general education that will develop in students,
proficiency in language, social consciousness, cultural awareness and
appreciation of the arts, sense of history, nationalism, moral integrity and
spirituality.
3. To provide students with opportunities for analytical, critical and
creative thinking needed for the acquisition of knowledge, professional and
technical skills, that will enable them to complete as world class
professional.
4. To establish and effectively pursue guidance programs that will integrate
spiritual values and character formation to develop students into mature and
responsible persons.
5. To develop students into productive, self reliant and disciplined
individuals with leadership potentials, to prepare them as future leaders of
their respective communities.
6. To develop and maintain institutional community service extension programs
where students can put into practice their knowledge and skills and to
inculcate in them the value of service to others.
Present Times
Because of its track record, the LIF- MED has gained public confidence that
can be attributed for the marked increase in enrollment. It has also gained
the confidence of
domestic and foreign shipping companies, which has facilitated the recruitment
of its graduates. Furthermore, graduates of LIF- MED have fared very well in
qualifying examinations for scholarships and recruitment, as well as in the
Board Examinations for Deck Officers, given by the Professional Regulations
Commission.
Being committed to excellence, the LIF-MED, through the years, strive to
continuously improve itself. Thus, physical plant improvement was
fast-tracked, purchase of the state of the art facilities, including a
simulator, prioritized. Library holding enhance and the faculty upgraded so
that the requirements of CHED in its Policies, Standards and Guidelines and
those of STCW ‘ 78 as amended, including those of other conventions, have been
complied with. With these improvements, the LIF-MED has metamorphosed to
become one of the premier Maritime Schools in the country.
At present, the LIF-med is Maintaining a Quality Management System. This is
not only to comply with CHED’s mandate provided in Article XIII, Section 35 of
its Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSG) for Maritime Education, and that
of STCW 78 amended 1995, particularly Regulation 1/8 on Quality Management,
but is in consonance with the School Administration’s inherent desire to
attain excellence in its system of education and training.
With a QMS in place, and strictly implemented through the concerted efforts of
all sectors in this Academic Community, this Institution’s quest for
excellence in Education and Training to meet International Standards has been
a certainty.
Flagship courses
The school’s flagship courses are Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of
Science in Maritime Transportation, Bachelor of Science in Customs
Administration, Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Architecture and
Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.
Lyceum of Iligan’s outstanding students
In August 7, 2007 the search for the IDEAL STUDENT 2007 was launched in the
school. Its objective was to arouse the interest of the students especially in
the academic areas. A total of 10 finalists were selected during the
screening.
The search included self presentation/introduction, interview and talent.
Besting the nine finalists, Ms. Cherry Ann Paradero (of the College of Customs
Administration), romped off with the title “Ideal Student 2007″.
Recent accomplishments of graduates
Lyceum of Iligan Foundation made headlines this year, when two of its
graduates brought honor to the school by passing the Deck Marine Officers’
Examinations held last July and November 2007 in Manila with the 2nd and 9th
highest mark.
OIC Salvador Delmundo H. Salud – 2nd place in the Deck Marine officers with a
rating of 96.2.
Top Board passer of Deck Officers’ Examinations held this month (November 10 &
11, 2007), OIC Roldan Jr Dagondon Alivio – 9th place in the Deck Marine
Officers with a rating of 86.65.
Other Board Passers in the Deck Officers Examinations include OIC Cris Rainer
Romo Arago, OIC Jemy Tan Calacar, OIC Roldan Jr Rivera Calit, OIC Christian
Dave Primor Dolauta, OIC Jomel Soco Labrador and OIC Alberth Diego Tuballa
Tuante.
